Are you and your
employees ready for the 21st century? Quality assurance is a
most dynamic subject which has moved apace during the past 50 years. Many new
tools, techniques and even philosophies have been introduced in recent years.
How can we keep abreast of these and how do we judge their relevance and value
to our own organisations?

- 26/05/99 - Interated Management Systems -
Quality, the environment and safety, both at work and with the
product are topical issues which are receiving considerable attention. This attention is
manifested in the proliferation of regulations, standards and guides to do with quality,
environment and safety. Ignoring or neglecting any of these requirements can have
disastrous consequences for the organisation or society; from at best - customer
dissatisfaction, or far more serious - injury, death or being put out of business. Apart
from those regulations or standards which detail specific requirements or objectives, for
example the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Consumer Protection Act, management
standards have also been appearing such as ISO9000 and BS7750. This can lead to
duplication of management systems and effort, such as multiple audits and
assessments . . . . .
- 26/05/99 - Life after ISO 9000 - Gaining
ISO 9000 approval for an organisation will probably be a major project involving almost all
departments (some more than others). The project often starts with the best of intentions
- not just to gain approval but to improve the overall performance of the organisation.
Unfortunately, as the deadline for certification gets nearer then the emphasis can often
change to doing just enough to gain approval. This is because the implication of failure
for the organisation and individuals within that organisation has become more important
than improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation.
Consequently, it is not surprising that jobs
and reputation can be on the line and failure could be very embarrassing. Failure to gain
approval could be disastrous for the organisation concerned . . . . .
