NEBOSH is the leading health and safety awarding body in the UK.  Qualifications from NEBOSH are recognised and respected by employers in both public and private sectors.

The NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety (IOG) course has been developed by NEBOSH specifically for those with safety responsibilities in the oil and gas industry.  If you currently work in the industry or plan to, this course was designed for YOU! The course will provide you with a sound breadth of underpinning knowledge that enables participants to manage oil and gas operational risks effectively.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?  

This is a course essential for anybody working in the oil or gas industries to have a good understanding of the risks and hazards that are present in their working environments.  Health and safety is a key concern for both day to day operations and managing and controlling risk.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is by one two-hour written examination. The written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question.  All questions are compulsory.

COURSE CONTENTS

The syllabus consists of 5 elements:

1. Health, safety and environmental management in context

2. Hydrocarbon process safety 1

3. Hydrocarbon process safety 2

4. Fire protection and emergency response

5. Logistics and Transport Operations

COURSE DURATION 

The duration of study for this course is approximately 40 hours, plus private study and background reading. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no academic prerequisites to joining this course.  Students would be required to write short reports and sit a written exam paper.

NEBOSH recommends candidates to have already completed a NEBOSH level 3 Certificate course or higher. This is not mandatory, only a recommendation.
