Introduction
The Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) course is a NVQ level 2 course, delivered by QM&T’s team of professionals who have been especially selected for their recognized knowledge and experience in the field of quality assurance. We have a down-to-earth, hands-on programme designed for all levels of staff including supervisors, team leaders and operators in companies that have lean systems in place but are looking to engage the wider workforce in continuous improvement activities. It teaches candidates how to identify and eliminate waste, create flow and improve quality leading to greater efficiency and increased profitability.

The learning package
There are 2 pathways to achieving the NVQ level 2 BIT qualification:
1. Pathway: Process Improvement
2. Pathway: Quality Improvement
Both pathways consist of six units (five mandatory units and one optional unit).
The Course Contents
1. Process Improvement Pathway – Mandatory Units
- Unit 1 – Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organizational Safety Requirements
Covers the various regulations concerning health and safety in the workplace, it also outlines the employer's responsibility of care towards the employee
- Unit 2 – Contributing to Effective Team Working
Covers the principles of establishing productive working relationships, the dynamics of effective team working and how to maintain these working relationships
- Unit 3 – Applying Workplace Organization Techniques
Covers all aspects of the organization in the workplace, from benefits of having an organized workplace to the first steps in applying organisation in the workplace
- Unit 4 – Applying Continuous Improvement Techniques (Kaizen)
Covers principles of continuous improvement development, how to apply this principle in the workplace, and how to sustain improvement within the workplace
- Unit 5 – Creating Visual Management Systems
Covers the principles of establishing productive working relationships, the dynamics of effective team working and how to maintain these working relationships
2. Quality Improvement pathway – Mandatory Units
- Unit 1 – Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organizational Safety Requirements
Covers the various regulations concerning health and safety in the workplace, it also outlines the employer's responsibility of care towards the employee
- Unit 2 – Contributing to Effective Team Working
Covers the principles of establishing productive working relationships, the dynamics of effective team working and how to maintain these working relationships
- Unit 3 – Applying Six Sigma methodology to a project
Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and variation in processes
- Unit 4 – Carrying out Six Sigma Process Mapping
Define exactly what a business entity does, who is responsible, to what standard a process should be completed and how the success of a business process can be determined
- Unit 5 – Applying basic statistics
Covers the competencies for applying basic statistics by consulting with the appropriate people and gathering the relevant data for statistical analysis
Optional Units for both pathways:
The following optional units are designed to fine tune your new skills even further. You will need to choose one of the following units
- Statistical Process Control Procedure (SPC)
- Potential Failure Modes and Effective Analysis (FMEA)
- Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
- Mistake / Error Proofing (Poka Yoke)
Fees:
Under the government's Train to Gain scheme these qualifications can be funded by the government. Funding is available through Business Link. (Please contact QM&T for further details of funding eligibility.)
If you don’t meet the government funding requirements, the fees for these courses are £550 per delegate.
