Introduction

The aim of this book is to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of the subject and the role of quality management in the development of IT systems and software. It is intended to make the reader appreciate the control of IT within a quality environment.

The object is to enhance the reader’s awareness of statutory and regulatory issues associated with the IT systems. The book follows the specification for CQI Diploma in Quality syllabus very closely, but would also be of use to students preparing for other computing and quality assurance courses. The book consists of 6 sections, covering all the material for the CQI module D6.2 Information Technology and Quality Management. Below is an outline of the contents of each section.

Chapter One:
This section is intended to provide sufficient information to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the need and historic development of management information and information systems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of network management and its maintenance in relation to quality assurance.
  • Raise awareness of concepts of IT and management information

Chapter Two:
This section is intended to provide sufficient information to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to manage quality issues using computer systems
  • Demonstrate an ability to implement Information Technology hardware and software into the quality environment

Chapter Three:
This section is intended to provide sufficient information to:

  • Evaluate, select and apply appropriate software to support the management of quality and related issues of business management
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a range of software applications and their use in a business environment

This section is intended to provide sufficient information to:

  • Understand software life cycle and software project management
  • Apply quality management principles to the development of software
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of quality management in the development of information technology systems and software
